Mountain Math is available in K-6, General Math (7-8), Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. You generally display Mountain Math on a bulletin board; although there are other ways to display it if a bulletin board is not available. There will be a picture on your kit that shows you an example of how it could be displayed. Problems are printed on brightly colored, high quality card stock. Each card has a code in the bottom left hand corner that tells you where that card fits on the board, what concept is reviewed, and what question it correlates to on the worksheet.

Example Mountain Math Bulletin Board

Sample questions:

#11. Estimate the sum.___________ Write the actual sum.____________

#23. Find the perimeter.____________________

Each kit includes:

  • General instructions
  • Math problem cards
  • Black line master of student worksheet (Kindergarten will have a page of suggested questions instead of a worksheet.)
  • A list of concepts reviewed under each grade level
  • Set of numbers
  • Order form
  • A logo and a picture is provided on the cover sheet.

Mountain Math can be used as a warm-up activity, part of a seat work assignment, a sponge activity, a bell ringer, etc. After determining the technique to be used, you will then be able to decide the number of problems the students will solve each day. If time permits, we suggest that you finish the board once a week so that the students are reviewing previously taught material on a weekly basis. Of course, if your time is limited, you will want to complete the board over an extended time.

Every day the students will solve the assigned daily problems on their student worksheet. The worksheet stays the same throughout the year- it is the problems on the board that change. When the students have completed the worksheet, whether it has taken one or two weeks, the teacher will flip the cards on the board, giving new problems to be worked during the next time period. You can run new copies of the worksheet each week from the black line master. Each student can have their own worksheet, or each student can have a copy of the worksheet to keep in a document protector and write the answers in a notebook or on a piece of paper, or the worksheet can be put on a transparency for the overhead projector. Be flexible and use your imagination. There are 24 problems under each number on the board.

You will love this easy review format. You will see improvement in your students' performance, and parents like seeing that basic skills are being taught in the classroom. You can have your students write story problems to correlate with problems on the board. You will find Mountain Math to be a wonderful, teacher friendly supplement to your classroom. Your students will love Mountain Math!!
